SAME, yet different

In Denver, Colorado there is a little cafe making a huge different. They go by SAME Cafe, standing for So All May Eat. The premise of the restaurant is simple: Pay what you want.

There isn’t a price to be found in the entire store, everyone is welcome and you pay what you can. You receive an envelope when you order and upon completion of your meal, you put your money in the envelope. How much? Whatever you feel the meal is worth. If you can’t pay, you offer up an hour of your time to volunteer.

In addition to their out-of-the-box pricing structure, their menu is unique as well. The owners change the menu each week so they can cook whatever it is that they feel like cooking, always using fresh and organic ingredients. They post the weekly menu on their blog along with their “wish list.”

The idea is brilliant but the owners didn’t create SAME Cafe to be hip or get rich. They did it because they enjoy volunteer work. People in all walks of their life need assistance, and they wanted to help provide that assistance. What a refreshing thought in today’s capitalist culture!

Their passion is obvious and it’s why their customers keep coming back and supporting them. It almost makes me wish I lived in Denver!
